The Scouts suffered a disappointing 2-0 loss to Carmel Catholic on Tuesday after winning on Monday against Cristo Rey St. Martin. The Scouts finished the year with an 8-26 record and a 3-4 record in conference.
Senior captain Alissa Eglite feels that many things went wrong for the team in the game against Carmel. But still, there was someone who stood out beyond the rest and held the team together in times of struggle.
“This year we had a brand new coach. Stephaine Cahill…it was her 1st year coaching and she really stepped up this season, and was really flexible and willing to work with our Assistant Coach Warner and figure out what’s best for our team,” Eglite said.
Being the captain of a struggling team is stressful to say the least. Sometimes you can forget what it’s like to just have fun playing the sport you love. Eglite is a prime example of how to lead a team and keep the team focused on what is important.

“As a captain, it was really important to step up and help the team understand that we aren’t defined by our losses,” Eglite said. “Instead, I had to remind the team that our team is defined by how well we work together and how well we bond. I think what is most important is the memories that we made along the way.”
At the end of the day, the record is not what meant the most to the players. For senior Molly Thomas, the way the team always came to compete meant more to her than the wins and the losses.
“I am really proud of everything our team accomplished this season. We made tremendous improvement over 3 short months and were competitive with every team we played. Though we often fell short, our team fought hard in every game and never gave an opponent an easy win,” Thomas said
In rare cases, the more losses you take, the stronger you become. This seems to be the culture of Lake Forest Volleyball.
“Our team was faced with numerous challenges throughout the year. Multiple injuries occurred in the middle of the season, and around the same time, we faced a losing streak. Staying positive after coming so close to beating many teams was definitely difficult, but our team did a great job using losses as motivation,” Thomas said.
