The classic LFHS tradition of Pucks and Poms is just around the corner. The charity event takes place annually on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, Nov. 27th. The Varsity Hockey Team takes on the Hinsdale Central Red Devils at 6:45 pm at Lake Forest College, with the Varsity Dance Team performing at halftime.
The annual event supports GLASA (Great Lakes Adaptive Sports Association), a charity that provides opportunities in sports for children and adults with physical and visual disabilities.
“Pucks and Poms is a great event that raises money and gathers the community together, around high schoolers playing a sport they love,” said junior hockey player Gavin Nelson.
Many alumni, family, and friends come to support the annual event. Highlights of the night include raffles, merchandise sales, giveaways, concessions from Duffer’s Pub, and performances by the LFHS Varsity Dance Team. The Dance Team forms a tunnel as the hockey team emerges, accompanied by a bagpiper, followed by the team’s performance of Fight Song.
“Puck and Poms is something to look forward to every year. The energy and excitement that is surrounded by it is like no other,” said junior dance team member Sophia Brincat.
The event is free, but all proceeds support GLASA. JV Blue plays Maine at 5:30pm prior to the Varsity game, which is then followed by JV Gold who takes on New Trier at 8:30pm. Varsity will be dressed in their tracksuits at school on Tuesday and will be taking the cages off their helmets as one of their rituals.
“I’m feeling good. We’re excited, and we are going to prompt the game like crazy to raise tons of money for GLASA. We want everyone there. Our new jerseys are pretty sick and they’ll make their debut at the game,” said senior captain Jack Walsh.
