It is no longer news that the Lake Forest Girls Basketball team is enjoying one of their best seasons in recent memory. It is less of a surprise, however, to those who follow the Scouts that much of their success can be attributed to senior guard Delaney Williams, who is in the 4th quarter of her final season as the point guard for Lake Forest.
This month, The Daily North Shore awarded the four-year letter winner “Athlete of the Month” along with Glenbrook South High School boys basketball player Matt Giannakopolous.
Earlier this season, D-Will, as she is affectionately referred to as by her teammates became the Scouts’ all-time leader in steals and assists and has recently added her first 20-win season to her growing list of accolades. On the season, Williams is averaging 9.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.0 steals and 3.1 assists per game this season. In her most recent game, Williams was celebrated with teammate Tori Salanty as the Scouts’ lone seniors on this year’s roster for Senior Night.
“She’s been rock solid for us this year,” added Coach Kyle Wilhelm about his senior captain, who has coached Delaney Williams for four years and understands her competitive spirit. “She is the undisputed emotional leader of our team and for that she deserves a lot of credit.”
Follow Coach Wilhelm, Delaney Williams, and the rest of the Scouts as they continue their successful season into the Warren Regional as part of the IHSA State tournament this February.
