It was a big Thursday evening at West Campus as Field Hockey and Boys Soccer played back-to-back games. Field Hockey hosted Francis Parker High School from Chicago and soccer hosted the mighty Stevenson Patriots.
Francis Parker showed up late to Varsity Field so play got underway around 5pm. Both teams got out to a slow start as a defensive game prevailed. After spending much of the first half with possession on their side of the field, the Scouts finally broke through as junior Sarah Considine hit a ball that ricocheted off of a Francis Parker player and into the net, giving the Scouts a goal. Lake Forest led 2-0 after the first half and went on to score four more goals in the second half en route to a 6-0 victory over Francis Parker. The juniors showed a lot of life for the Scouts on Thursday as Bridget McGreevy and Madden Plante netted goals as well. After the Field Hockey victory, it was time for the boys soccer team to defend the West Campus turf.
A solid Stevenson team came into town looking to keep a strong year going, but the Scouts were looking to avenge their 2-0 loss to Mundelein earlier in the week. After a little bit of passive play and back and forth, the Scouts finally broke the tie with a goal from senior Austin Pinderski. It was hard to tell what happened in the chaos, but Pinderski was given the goal as the ball careened off a Stevenson player and into the net. The Scouts took the 1-0 lead in the first half and did not seem to even think of giving it up. The defense defended the lead for the rest of the game thanks to solid play from senior defensemen Joe Williams, Jack Page, and Chris Svigos. Time eventually ran out on Stevenson’s attempts to tie the game so the Scouts held on to win 1-0.
Overall, it was an entertaining evening of sports at West Campus as both teams had great victories. Both teams will be back in action on Saturday as Field Hockey travels to New Trier at 3pm, and soccer heads to Buffalo Grove for an 11am kick.
