A high scoring first half and a strong defensive second half was what the Scouts needed to break their losing streak against the Glenbrook South Titans on Saturday. On a day where it was hot enough to warrant a water break at the 20 minute marks, the Scouts erupted for as many goals as they did in their last five games combined.

The Scouts were the first on the board when senior forward Will Davis chipped it over the GBS keeper after receiving a great pass from junior midfielder Oliver Akintade in the 4th minute.

“I felt good about it. Oliver had a great pass,” Davis said of his goal after the game. “One of my first games playing right wing. All I had to do was put it over the keeper. Oliver did the hard part.”

The Titans struck back three minutes later when Titan forward Jimmy McMahon deposited a free kick into the back of the net just over the outstretched hand of junior goalkeeper John Walsh.

Lake Forest reclaimed the lead in 14th minute when senior forward Kean O’Connor gave junior midfielder Carter Collis a pass in space at the top of the box which Collis placed in the left corner of the net. The goal was Collis’s first of the season.

The Titans scored the equalizer when McMahon sent another free kick curling away from a diving Walsh in the 25th minute.

Both teams solidified on defense after that.

Senior defender Andrew Forowycz and junior defender Konrad Ziaja kept the Titan offense in check and the senior goalkeeper Colton Pfeiffer collected any balls that made it to the box.

Early in the second half GBS drew a foul close to the Scouts goal, and McMahon once again stepped over the ball. With two free kick goals already on his resume for day, the Scouts knew he was looking for a third. McMahon decided to take the kick early hoping to catch Pfeifer unaware, but the senior goalkeeper was able to regain his composure in time to block the shot.

The game ended without any other threats.

The Scouts look to build on the draw against the Loyola Ramblers Monday night at Loyola.

Injury Report:

  • A scary moment transpired when a Titan forward slid into goalkeeper Pfeifer late in the second half on Saturday. Pfeiffer was forced to leave the game with a knee injury. It is expected that he will miss at least one game.
  • Collis was forced to leave the game early when he planted his foot awkwardly and strained his achilles. He is not expected to miss any time.
  • Junior forward OJ Singhal had a run in with the Titan keeper that sent him to the ground. While he was removed from the game, he should be ready to compete the next time the Scouts play.
  • Senior defender Sean Ramsay had to leave the game with a mild case of turf burn. He will return to the pitch Monday against the Ramblers.

Stat of the Day: The Scouts committed 16 fouls on Saturday. Of those 16, two led to Titan goals. The Scouts will look to lessen this number as the season goes on.
