Sale Shipped to Boston for Moncada and Prospects

Sale+Shipped+to+Boston+for+Prospects

Last night it seemed like that Chicago White Sox ace Chris Sale would be on his way to Washington, DC. The Nationals were set to offer the Chicago White Sox a pair of their top prospects in exchange for the Sox ace, but come the start of the second day of winter meetings the Boston Red Sox became aggressive. At midday the Red Sox suddenly emerged as favorites to sign Sale and the Red Sox offered the White Sox their top prospect, Yoan Moncada, and another minor leaguer, Michael Kopech, along with a few other players who were lower in the Red Sox farm system. For the White Sox, who are seeking young talent, this deal was to hard to pass up. Around 12:15PM on Tuesday it was announced that the two clubs struck a deal that in the future is expected to significantly help both teams.

Chicago White Sox

Face it. The roster that the White Sox currently have is no postseason threat. Now is the time that they become serious about rebuilding their team. The best way to start the multi-year process is signing top prospects from around the majors. Yesterday the White Sox got All Star Futures MVP Yoan Moncada and pitcher Michael Kopech who can hurl the ball well over 100 mph. The two minor league stars will join White Sox top prospects Carson Fulmer, Zach Collins, and Spencer Adams. To some loyal south side fans it may seem like they got robbed, but in the long run experts predict that Moncada and Kopech will be future All-Stars. Now the Chicago White Sox are heading in the right direction, even if that means they needed to give away some of their best players in the process. Overall, this trade by the White Sox was exactly what they were looking for and was a great decision by the Sox GM Rick Hahn as the Chicago White Sox look to revitalize their brand in the game of baseball.

Boston Red Sox

Even after losing one of the best DH’s in baseball history, the Boston Red Sox still have the talent to make it to the postseason. Yesterday, the Red Sox added one more dominant pitcher in Chris Sale to their pitching staff who now joins David Price and 2016 AL Cy Young winner Rick Porcello. In Sale’s seven year career his ERA is exactly at 3.00 and boasts a record of 74-50. After giving some of their best prospects to the White Sox it is easy to determine that the Red Sox will be going for it all this year and in the immediate future. With the addition of a few more power hitters this off season the Red Sox have the potential to be a serious threat in the AL East, a division that they won last year. The club is currently looking into options on signing Rangers first baseman Mitch Moreland to a multi year deal, which would be another strong addition to a team that is expected to be a title contender.

The big move in Chicago that fans have been arguing about for what seems like the past two weeks is over. The team got the prospects they were hoping for as they continue to survey the league during the winter meetings for some substantial minor league talent. Meanwhile on the North Side of town, Dexter Fowler is expected to sign with a team in today or tomorrow while the Cubs’ front office continues to look for an elite closer. With only two days left in the winter meetings stay tuned to The Forest Scout for trade summaries regarding the Cubs and the White Sox.
