Friday Five

Will Fox

No matter if he’s the first or last face you see at school, senior Will Fox is sure to leave a lasting impression on your day. Fox’s bright attitude, warm smile, and charismatic laugh are guaranteed to boost your mood at any possible time. Lake Forest runs on his constant spirit and uplifting personality.

Will’s character has not only helped other students, but teammates as well.

Making the Varsity Soccer team sophomore year, his presence has been a staple on and off the field for a number of years.

“During the season, if Will is there, it’s guaranteed to be a good practice,” fellow teammate Connor Phelan says. “He can make even the most boring situations hilarious, and his humor keeps us all going.”

Not only is Fox a committed student athlete but a passionate skier too.

“Will always brings the energy and is great to be around whenever we are skiing,” senior Otto Hektor says. “He’s super committed to improving on his skills and always works hard to try to be a better skier.”

Will impacts every person he interacts with, and his care for the people closest to him is apparent.

When he is not hanging out with his friends, Fox loves to spend time with his family. Together, they enjoying traveling the globe and learning about the world around them. “Will is one of the most well-traveled people I know. His curiosity is one of his most admirable qualities,” friend Tess Uihlein states.

While pursuing his multitude of passions, Fox never fails to stay committed to what matters most. He works hard in school while maintaining his friendships. Outside of his academic pursuits, he balances his rigor with humor, music, and witty jokes. Friends can rely on Will to show them a new song, funny video, or exciting experience to take them on.

“I can always count on Will to rope me into some kind of unexpected adventure that will end up being a funny memory,” senior Sophia Sinclar admits.

Whether you know him as Will, Foxtrot, or Scooby, one thing remains true to his character: there’s just no one else like Will Fox.

Liam Georgi

Freshman Liam Georgi  is already the  cornerstone of the new club, the Fly Fishing team. He is a lead instructor for the up-and-coming club and a friend to all.

“Liam is an excellent fly instructor on the water,” said junior TC Weninger. “He teaches the students to use waited treble hooks and snag all the fish in sight. Not only that, but he makes everyone around him laugh with joy and have a great time on the water.”

Not only is Georgi making his mark on the water, but he is also an overall a great guy to be around.

“Liam is kind of friend who somehow makes everything more fun,” said freshman Charlie Cole. “Whether it’s a regular day or an unexpected adventure, he finds a way to make people laugh and keep the good vibes going. He’s genuine, dependable, and always the first to make sure everyone’s included.”

If you can’t find Georgi in the river or hanging out with friends, you may be able to find him on the ice. Liam is on the JV blue hockey team and will try out for the lacrosse team in spring. His interest to get involved in school activities is one of the many reasons he is respected.

“Liam’s an awesome, energetic kid,” said junior Graydon Rother.

Georgi’s funny personality and drive to try new things is exactly the addition we needed to the high school.

Mrs. Jennifer Gatta

It doesn’t take long to realize what an amazing teacher Mrs. Jennifer Gatta is. Her positive energy, love and care for her students, along with her fun learning activities, don’t go unnoticed.

Whenever you’re having a bad day, she’s the teacher to go to. Her personality is contagious and spreads between students and classrooms.

“Mrs. Gatta has never failed to make my day. Whether it is her contagious positive energy in the class room or her enthusiastic “hello” in the hallway, she always finds a way to make each of her students feel special,” senior Summer Jaster said. “Having her as a teacher both freshman and junior year, I have been able to watch as she engages each student with an interactive and energetic teaching style.”

Besides her personality, she teaches with a purpose. You can tell she wants each  student to succeed. She’s created an atmosphere in her classroom with positivity and encouragement, leaving each student to feel motivated.

”I look forward to Mrs. Gatta’s class every day because she always is filled with energy and is just a super nice person,” junior Megan Ross said.

What really sets Mrs. Gatta apart from others is the connection she makes with each student. Even though she teaches multiple classes, she strives and builds a connection with each student beyond academics. She works to make you confident with the material before a test, teaches you study strategies, reassures you to not be stressed, and helps you through challenges of the material.

“Mrs. Gatta has taught us some of the best strategies to study even for classes outside of Anatomy,” junior Katherine St. Amand said. “She makes all of her students feel welcome and confident in the classroom by giving us time to work and ask questions. She always makes easy analogies and mnemonics to help us remember body systems.”

Mrs. Gatta cares about you beyond the classroom, and that’s what makes her the best.

Paloma Russo

Between cross country meets, club meetings, and AP classes, sophomore Paloma Russo navigates her packed schedule with determination and focus. From early bird class to late-night practices, she constantly demonstrates commitment to her success and to those around her.

Her strong academic drive sets her apart from others.

“Paloma is one of the most hard-working and driven people I know; she is always giving her best effort and everything she does, whatever it is,” said senior Catie Sedushak

Beyond academics Paloma is heavily involved in LFHS. She is an active member in cross country, Big to Little, Crafts for a Cause, Animal Conservation, Peer Tutoring, and more. She continually seeks new opportunities and new challenges to connect with her peers and involve herself in the community. Through these activities, she demonstrates that her dedication extends beyond herself.

Travel has also played a major role in shaping Paloma who she is today. Having visited all 50 states and spent time in several different countries and even speaking another language, she has developed a deep appreciation for different cultures and the ability to adapt to new environments. These experiences have taught her how to navigate changes with resilience.

Paloma has one of the more unique personalities here at LFHS. She has the ability to brighten someone’s day within seconds with her warm and calm demeanor. Her energy is what sets her apart from others.

“I met Paloma my freshman year in Wellness class. Being around her brought me so much joy. She always knew how to make everyone laugh and feel included. I’m lucky to call her one of my best friends now. She is the kind of person who can make any situation better by just being herself,” sophomore Madeline Ignafo said

Whether she is sharing a joke at practice, helping a friend study, making new friends, or welcoming people to clubs, Paloma’s personality leaves a lasting impact on everyone she interacts with. Paloma is a person who truly can turn a bad day into a good one simply through her kindness and positivity. Her ability to balance hard work with her warm personality and compassion makes her a great friend and a role model.

Bridget Pizzo

Sophomore Bridget Pizzo loves reading, baking, and watching basketball in her free time. When it comes to her own sport, she is a part of the LFHS Dive team. She has been a part of the sport for five years, and this is her first year diving for the school.

“Bridget is so fun to be around; she always gives the best advice and I’m so happy that I got to spend a season with her,” freshman and teammate Ari Bag said.

She is also a part of gymnastics which is something she has done since she was a little girl. She loves the environment that both teams bring, her sport is a way to escape from reality and find peace.

When it comes to school, Bridget’s academics are her first priority. She strives for all A’s and is in advanced classes, like AP Enviro and AP Seminar. She takes school very seriously. It’s important for her to be successful in those aspects and to work hard.

Outside of academics and sports, she is a part of the school’s Mock Trial Club. She is the sophomore representative for the club. Bridget runs the Instagram account and makes the graphics in hopes to grow the club this year, since they lost a lot of members to graduation.
