ROADS CLOSED TO THRU TRAFFIC UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE
Chances are you’ve seen this sign while driving along Green Bay Road.
The first phase of construction began at Green Bay Road and 176 on May 4. Over the course of the next six months, Campanella Construction will be renovating roads and potholes, adding pedestrian safety features, and improving the quality of drainage across the route. Kicking off near West Scranton Avenue, work crews will continue to make their way south, and eventually finish off at West Witchwood Avenue, in November.

This reconstruction project has been in the works for some time now. According to the Lake Bluff Style, this infrastructure operation will cost approximately $8 million, with around 75% of the costs being covered through financial grants.
Some students have expressed frustration with these renovations.
“Green Bay is pretty much the center of our community,” said junior Jackson Gustie. “ Lately, it’s just been really inconvenient when driving to and from my activities.”
Keelin Oesterlein says the construction is causing her to be late to school, even after intentionally leaving 15 minutes earlier than normal.
“I’ve started to leave earlier every day, but still get stuck under the viaduct because that’s where all the traffic ends up,” Osterlein said. “It feels like I’m driving in the city.”

Green Bay Road Project Limits
After the first six months of work have been completed, phase two is scheduled to move forward in February 2027 and wrap up later that August. In this round of construction, work will be focused around the Green Bay Road bridge and border of Lake Forest. Nearing neighborhoods such as Bath & Tennis, as well as the western terraces will likely experience more detours.
Sophomore Francesca Nottoli recognizes the frustration that has come from these repairs, but is still looking on the bright side.
“I’m excited for all of the roads to be smooth,” Nottoli added.
As a result of active construction, speed bumps have been installed and reduced speed limits have been put in place. In construction zones, the driving limit will be 20 MPH. Additionally, law enforcement will be on patrol to ensure proper safety.
