Coming off a State Championship last year and being ranked the number one team for the 2025 season by the Illinois Lacrosse Network, Scouts lacrosse has a lot to look forward to this season, along with high expectations to reach. Here’s what some of our seniors and coach Hone have to say about this season.
Coach David Hone

What will it take this year to win a state championship?
“Simply put, we have to be a new breed. We have to have continual improvement and we ought to be better than the previous years. We have to have better team chemistry, better conditioning, and greater intelligence.”
What goal or goals do you wish to accomplish this year?
“To be a better lacrosse team of better individuals and play better as a team. That will help us reach our ultimate goal of winning a State Championship. Another goal is to be able to respond to the unexpected by being disciplined and mentally tough to be able to recognize it as players and coaches, then respond effectively during games.”
Marty Hippel

What are your expectations for this season?
“Every year we’re chasing the same goal which is a State Championship. We know we have the talent this year and are capable of doing so, but we just have to take it day by day and not look too far ahead just yet. We lost some key seniors from last year, so we have to focus on getting better each and every day and really meshing as a team right now.” Marty will be playing his fourth year of varsity this season and will be playing lacrosse at the Western Reserve Academy next year.
Huston O’Neil

What are you looking forward to this season?
“I am looking forward to another successful season. We return a lot of our key players and definitely have a chance to make a solid run. We have a great group of guys who get along really well and it should be a fun season.” This will be Huston’s third year on varsity and has plans of playing club lacrosse at the University of Richmond.
Brayden Thiergart

What do you think will be the biggest obstacle this year, and how will you guys overcome it?
“I think our biggest obstacle will be filling the holes of our upperclassmen from last year. We’ll overcome it by preparing and getting the newer guys reps and getting them ready to play. We’re gonna repeat what worked last year and really work with each other making the team better as a whole.” Brayden will be playing in his fourth year of varsity and will be attending the University of Alabama next year.
Danny Van Camp

What separates Scouts lacrosse from other teams?
“The community we’ve built and the team that we’ve formed. We have guys from all ages and we have the largest youth club in the state. There’s a lot of time and effort put into the team from every contributor, and the best coaching in the state helps make us the best.” Danny will be playing his fourth year of varsity this year and is committed to play lacrosse at Yale University next year.
Overall, LFHS has high expectations of a State Championship this season and will do their best to achieve one. They have a lot to prove, but they also have the support of all LFHS behind them as everyone is excited for this amazing season to begin.
