Friday, December 19th, the Senior Luncheon made its first reappearance since 2017. Originally, this event started in 2005; however, when finals were moved to before Winter Break, the luncheon was put on hold.
“Events like the luncheon help to build a solidified community within the senior class. They can also have great conversations with their teachers outside of class that are not only centered on their day-to-day curriculum,” Executive Assistant to the Assistant Superintendent/Principal Mrs. Sereta “Di” Scholz said.
Scholz was a key contributor in planning this event. Thinking from a student’s perspective, she arranged the type of food that would be provided. Along with that, Scholz wanted to make the event extra special by including the faculty members. When brainstorming their role, she decided that they could help serve food and wear fun aprons!

“It had a very chill vibe with black and white tablecloths, fun centerpieces, great food, and of course holiday music playing in the background,” said Scholz. “The lunch consisted of fried chicken, a variety of different sandwiches, chips, and cookies!”
Science Teacher, Mrs. Molly Grzesik, was in charge of organizing volunteers. Twenty-five teachers and staff were signed up to assist with the luncheon, but there were many more people who made the event work that weren’t on the volunteer list.
“As a teacher of mostly freshmen and sophomores this year, I looked forward to seeing some of my students who I had in freshman biology–I haven’t seen some of them in three years,” Grezesik said. “The end of the school year is a very hectic time for graduating seniors. I am very happy to have had this first semester tradition return as another way to connect with seniors before they leave Lake Forest High School!”

Approaching the last semester of high school, the seniors can look back and appreciate the luncheon before anticipating end-of-the-year traditions like paranoia, Decision Day, the bonfire, and Prom.
“The seniors have spent four years together, and some of them have gone to school with each other since kindergarten. The faculty and staff have watched them, taught them, and nurtured them in this building since their clap-in back in the fall of 2022,” Math Teacher Mr. Paul Goldstein said. “We are all family now, and the senior luncheon reflected that.”
While the future of the next luncheon is yet to be decided, this year’s event proved successful in gathering the seniors for a celebration of their four-year milestone!
