This Tue., Dec. 3, the LFHS Girls Varsity Basketball team will play the Libertyville Wildcats at home at 7 P.M.
The Scouts currently have a 2-3 record this year with wins against Antioch and Elk Grove. The Libertyville Wildcats, on the other hand, have a 3-2 record, beating Buffalo Grove, Barrington and Elk Grove. Both teams have yet to play any teams in their conference, making this the first official conference game for both teams.
Historically, getting a win against Libertyville has been difficult for the Scouts. The Wildcats won 56-26 in last year’s game, and 51-30 the year before. With the Wildcats’ impressive records of 30-6 in 2023-24, and 29-5 in 2022-23– compared to LFHS’ records of 15-16 in 2023-24, and 23-11 in 2022-23– the stakes are high for the Scouts.
In fact, Lake Forest hasn’t beat Libertyville since 2019. Although this means a win would be difficult to achieve, it would make beating Libertyville even sweeter.
Regardless of the odds, players are confident that their hard work this season will show through in the game.
“I think we have a very good chance of putting up a fight against Libertyville because of how much work every single one of us has put in throughout this season,” said senior player Carly Thelen.
Despite the odds going against their favor, the Scouts are ready to take home a win.
“This season, we’ve already been putting in the hard work and making steady progress,” said Varsity Coach Anastasia Leach. “As we head into our home opener, we know it’s going to be a tough challenge. But, we’re ready to give it our all and compete with everything we’ve got.”
