Scouts Basketball beats Lake Zurich in a Tight Game 46-44 on a Buzzer Beater

Scouts Boys Basketball hosted Lake Zurich last Friday night, and they were looking for revenge. Lake Forest had not lost a game since falling to Lake Zurich by 4 points on Jan. 15. Being a tough matchup for the Scouts, this was a crucial game for the conference title.

The Scouts won the game 46-44, with a buzzer-beater from 6-foot-2 senior  Tommie Aberle after an inbound pass from senior Bolurin Taiwo.

“It was a great pass by BT, and we executed the play well, getting the result we wanted,” Aberle said.

LFHS fans were on their feet, having a roller coaster of emotions for the tight game.

“The game was electric,” sophomore Henry Muliken said, ”being a close game, it was very exciting to come out with the win. Tommie showed that he could come through when the team needed him most.”

The game meant more to the team than just a game of basketball. “It was on Cure for Cancer night which was pretty special,” Efe Yardimci said. “We had a pediatric cancer patient named Parker who sat with us and came to the locker room. He is an amazing kid and we weren’t about to let him down.”

Taiwo and Aberle both had 9 points led by Yardimci with a career-high 18 points being a key role in the team’s success.

“I had a decent game the last time we played them so I was already pretty confident that our new game plan would work,” Yardimci said. “My teammates trusted me and I kept attacking.”

The Scouts hosted another important conference game against Warren on Tuesday.  After beating them in another close game at Warren on Jan. 10th, the 20-5 Scouts were looking to upset 24-4 Warren again at home. Unfortunately, the Scouts weren’t able to hold their winning streak losing 57-39.

The Scouts will be on the road Friday for a conference game against Mundelein. Having won 61-50 last time, the 20-6 Scouts are favored to beat the 9-19 Mustangs.
