GRAYSLAKE, Ill.–It’s a great time for the Lake Forest Scouts girls varsity basketball team to be playing some of their best basketball of the season. In a thrashing of Grayslake North last night, the host school in the IHSA Regional, reserve Grace Tirzmalis notched a career-high in a 61-24 Scouts victory. Using a 35-6 lead that was built in the first half, the Scouts cruised past the Knights and earned a trip to the IHSA Regional Final, which will take place Friday night at Grayslake North High School.
Their opponent in the Regional Final will be Lake Zurich, a team that swept the regular season series between the two teams, including a 40-34 loss as recently as February 2. The Bears, who come in with a 17-10 record on the season and are fresh off a 48-24 win over Grant, have a long history of success in girls basketball, which includes 13 Regional titles and 4 IHSA Sectional crowns. The Scouts win the recency battle, however, having won the Warren Regional a season ago with only two seniors, Delaney Williams (Wittenberg) and Tori Salanty.
Friday night’s game will certainly be a test for Lake Forest, who would then face the winner of Palatine (3) and Stevenson (6) in the Sectional Semifinal if they advance. Come out and support the Scouts as they look to make it to consecutive Sectionals in the IHSA State Playoffs.
