The Lake Forest Scouts (18-7, 7-2) are riding a seven-game win streak heading into Lincolnshire tonight to face off against the Stevenson Patriots. The Patriots, (12-9, 7-2) recently made light work of the Waukegan Bulldogs, as did the Scouts last Friday night. Tonight’s game of course features two teams with identical records in the conference, each looking to play catch-up with the NSC top dog, the Warren Blue Devils. Both of Stevenson’s conference losses, the most recent on January 18, have come at the hands of the Blue Devils, while the Scouts still have a shot to take down Warren and presumably earn at least a share of the North Suburban Conference.
But in order for that scenario to unfold, the Scouts will have to earn a road win over their hated rival for the first time in recent memory. The Patriots, who boast a 4-1 home record thus far this season, will look to guard Kiana Cencula, a 5’9″ senior combo wing to power them to victory. The Scouts, of course, will lean heavily on the all-around play of sophomore Halle Douglass. As the rangy, 6’1″ wing goes, so go the Scouts. In fact, Douglass leads the team in two major categories, points (11.2) and assists (5.0). Her 21.2 points per game accounted for in combining her points and rebounds represent just under half of the Scouts total points per game (45.1).
Look for the Scouts to pull the upset if they are able to connect on more than four three-pointers. For the season, the Scouts are shooting 26% (98-379) and 40% from the two (331-820).
