LAKE FOREST, Ill.– If you were to tell Lake Forest head coach Kyle Wilhelm that his team would shoot 50% over the course of the game on two-point field goals and 80% from the free throw line, he would have liked his chances.
On Friday night at 5:30 pm, the girls varsity basketball team made their biggest statement of the season, knocking off a Warren team that boasts two Division I-level players and a talented supporting cast. The Scouts, who moved to (6-4) on the season with the win, were led by their defense, holding the visiting Blue Devils to 31 points. In fact, the Blue Devils only managed a double digit point total in one quarter (4th) and never managed to have a sizable lead the entire contest.
Halle Douglass and Grace Tirzmalis led the Scouts with 13 points apiece. Tirzmalis, who came off the bench on Friday night, knocked down all three of her 3-point attempts. Douglass also tallied 7 rebounds, 5 steals, and 5 assists in the win.
The Scouts are now (3-1) in NSC play. Tomorrow, the Scouts travel to Lake Zurich to square off against Nazareth Academy out of LaGrange in a shootout. The Roadrunners carries in a (10-0) record and should pose a good mid-season test for Lake Forest before they continue their conference play and begin their holiday tournament.
