Tonight, the girls basketball team (0-1) heads to Vernon Hills to take on the (1-0) Cougars in tournament play. The Cougars, who took down Elk Grove 60-53 in their season opener on Monday, are led by Kayla Caudle, a senior power forward who has a Division 1 offer from DePaul University on the table.
The Scouts (0-1), who boast a Division 1 prospect of their own in do-it-all guard Halle Douglass, will need to improve their offensive output as a team (34 PPG) in order to compete with the Cougars on the road.
In their opening season loss to Lake Forest Academy, Coach Kyle Wilhelm had to have been pleased with the production of freshman Finola Summerville, who added 8 points and 9 rebounds to the Scouts’ total in her high school basketball debut. Despite Halle Douglass’ struggles from the floor in her first game of the year, the Scouts are confident that she can impact the game on nights when her shot isn’t falling the way she has become accustomed to. On Monday night, the sophomore notched 10 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals for the Scouts.
Make your way out to Vernon Hills High School tonight at 7:30 pm to watch the Scouts attempt to earn their first win of the season.
