Three years ago, student-athletes in Lake Forest’s popular Business Incubator class created a business surrounding the youth—a summer sports program. Jr. Scouts gained recognition as they hosted multiple camps, attended birthday parties, and were featured on WGN’s Spotlight Chicago. There was something special about high school athletes and their connection with young kids.
The camp’s prevalence eventually subsided, as its leaders began to start the next chapter of their lives.
“Charlie, Oscar, Rocco, and I got to the point where we were all going our separate ways,” said LFHS Alumni and Founder of Jr. Scouts Sports Camp, Murphy Moorhead.
The camp created opportunities for kids to get outside and stay active. Though once these student-athletes graduated and went off to college, they left a void that needed to be filled.
“A great story to tell about what we did in those two years is the way we fostered youth athletics as one force,” said Moorhead. “Most importantly, the opportunity that was granted to us with a connection with the kids that we once were.”
This year, junior student-athletes Emmet Lee, Carter Savage, TC Weninger, and Graydon Rother are picking up where these alums left off and bringing back the strong legacy the camp left behind.

“I’m glad to see the younger guys can keep Jr. Scouts going strong in the community. I’m excited to see what they do in the future,” said LFHS Alumni and Jr. Scouts Founder, Charlie Savage.
This year’s Jr. Scouts Camp Counselors have past experience working for the camp, as they have previously helped the alums by assisting in demo videos and with the kids.
“I really do feel like the older guys tailored us for this job,” said TC Weninger. “They took us through some of the processes, offered us jobs, and taught us a lot about business at a young age.”
Savage is eager to continue to grow the camp and follow in the footsteps of his older brother.
“We’re excited to pick up where the other group left off. I think collectively we all bring a lot to the table, whether it’s TC’s charisma, or Emmet’s ability to help the kids,” said Savage.
“From experience working with both Learn 2 Lax 4 Jack (Youth Lacrosse Program), and Little Scouts (Youth Ice Skating Program), we all realized how much fun it is working with the younger kids— It’s almost like acting as a big brother,” said Emmet Lee.
Lee and the others are looking forward to bringing that same energy into a new era of Jr. Scouts Sports Camp!
