The new year is always the perfect excuse to start a new beginning or a fresh start. Here are some overall ideas that I think we should leave in 2025, and others we should bring into 2026.
Out with the old:
1. Missed opportunities
2026 is the year to take every opportunity given. I believe that too much time is spent wondering what would have happened if you took an opportunity- don’t wonder more than you need to this year.
2. Procrastination/ putting things off
This year, finish every challenge and task the moment it is given to you. Make every day count by taking action immediately and giving your best to everything you do.
3. Fear of failure or being judged
In the light of high school, the second semester means each day is closer to the finish line. Don’t waste anymore time caring what others think about you in 2026.
4. Stressing over grades
With a new semester comes a new start. Throughout the rest of the school year, there are many opportunities to bring your grade up, so don’t spend time stressing over what it is at this moment.
5. Forgetting to celebrate small wins
Every success you have is worth celebrating, and this is the year to do it. Take pride in every accomplishment, and let each victory remind you of your hard work.
In with the new:
1. Try new things
Trying new things is always encouraged, but make it a habit this year. Step out of your comfort zone regularly. Every new experience is a step towards learning more about yourself. Join a sports team or volunteer.
2. Ask for help when you need it
With the many resources at our disposal, always ask for help this year when necessary. And, it is just as important not be scared to ask.
3. Focusing on solutions, not problems
This year, put your energy into solutions, not setbacks. Focus on what you can control, learn from the challenges, and turn obstacles into opportunities to grow.
4. Take it easy
Don’t let grades or sports stress you out- take a breather instead and focus on the growth you have achieved.
5. Share your creativity with others
Share what makes you stand with others this year. Whether it be artistic, musical, or another outlet, I encourage you to spread your strength with others
These are some simple ways to make this year better than the last. Embracing the outs of 2025 and the ins of 2026 will ensure a great year!
