The Scouts lost their annual Pucks and Poms game against BGHW (Buffalo Grove, Hersey, and Wheeling high school), 4-1, with the only goal coming from senior varsity captain Tommy Esplin.
Senior alternative captain Jake Maraccini described the atmosphere as “incredible.” Students, parents, and people who just love to watch hockey piled into the Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse at Lake Forest College.
“Hearing students shouting over the boards and seeing so many people show up to support us meant a lot. Even though we didn’t come away with the win, our team is grateful for everyone who came out and cheered us on,” Maraccini said.“The night was still unforgettable. And of course, unveiling our new jerseys is always a highlight—there’s nothing quite like that moment.
Before the actual game, the team spends the whole week preparing, doing activities, and advertising for the game.
“The entire week leading up to the game is filled with excitement. Monday and Tuesday were especially fun as our team hit the halls to promote the event. Rollerblading through school with my teammates, hearing people talk about the upcoming matchup—it all added to the energy and made the week feel even more special,” Maraccini said.

This is more than just a game; it also supports the Great Lakes Adaptive Sports Association, also known as GLASA. GLASA is based in Lake Forest. They support athletes, from three to 75 years old, with primary physical or visual disabilities, allowing them to play the sport they love. GLASA provides sports like archery, sled hockey, wheelchair basketball, wheelchair football, and many more.
“The entire Pucks and Poms night is about GLASA and raising funds (along with a portion of tree and merchandise sales), toward Scouts’ overall donation to this incredible organization,” Miss. Julie Rancourt said. “Significant funds were raised through the Poms’ sale of 50/50 raffle tickets, merchandise sales, and donations.”
“It’s great to get the community together and support an amazing organization,” senior Jack Rancourt said.
The Scouts go on the road this weekend to New York to play in the Governors Cup.
