Last Tuesday, Oct. 22, Girls Swim and Dive held their annual Senior Night against Mundelein. Although Varsity Swim lost, JV Swim won and the Scouts continued on a strong path with many personal records.
The seniors celebrated Varsity Captains Harper Anderson and Isabel Vavrinek, along with swimmers Hannah Belenkiy, Ava Janda, Molly Meier and Emily Lim. Varsity Diving Captains Ella Boudreau and Ava Starks, as well as divers Abigail Bruskin, Brooke Kaiser and Cecilia Lemon were also celebrated.
The night began with a ceremony for all the seniors, announcing their future plans and providing advice for their younger teammates. The seniors from Mundelein were also recognized.
Highlights Of The Night – Varsity
- Senior Harper Anderson got a PR in the 100 breaststroke.
- Senior Emily Lim achieved a PR in the 100 freestyle.
- Senior Molly Meier achieved a PR in the 100 freestyle, as well as breaking 30 for the first time in the 200 free relay.
- Junior Abby Houlihan won second place in the 500 freestyle, achieving a personal best after consistently swimming under six minutes the past three meets.
- Sophomore Megan Wandycz dropped five seconds in her 200 freestyle, and eleven seconds in her 500 freestyle, for a season best and another two PRs.
- Sophomore Charlotte Kelly achieved a PR in the 100 fly.
Overall, Varsity Swim placed third in the 200 medley relay with seniors Anderson, Vavirnek, Meier and junior Eleanor DeDeolph competing in the event.
Highlights Of The Night – JV Swim
On the JV Swim side, the team got first place in the 200 medley relay with Belenkiy having her fastest 50 fly split in the 200 medley.
“I’m so proud of our team and all the growth we’ve had over the season,” said Belenkiy. “Everyone’s been working super hard to get ready for our meets.”
Coming Up
JV competed in conference last week, putting up an impressive fight at Libertyville High School. For Varsity Swim, the next meet is this Saturday, hosted by Zion Benton High School. The Scouts are extremely hopeful and looking for a win.
