The Scouts (1-2, 1-0 Conference) reigned victorious Friday night as they beat the Mundelein Mustangs (1-2, 0-1 Conference) by a score of 39-12. Lead by offensive weapons Ryan Cekay and Jacob Thomas, the Scouts came out firing and never looked back.

Quarterback James Swartout had his best performance of the season, completing 21 of 29 passes for 203 yards and two touchdowns. He looked comfortable and confident the entire night, and showed exactly why Coach Spagnoli gave him the title of captain.

Running back Jacob Thomas also continued his fantastic 2018 campaign as he rushed 25 times for 113 yards and three touchdowns. Thomas’s big play ability has been one of the main reasons the Scouts have stayed competitive in games this season.

Per usual, the defense looked strong as they added their first three interceptions while holding Mundelein to negative two rushing yards. The Scouts showed much improved discipline and did a significantly better job at limiting unnecessary penalties.

The Scouts prospects are looking up after such a strong performance against the Mustangs. From the get go, you could tell that this team was playing with a different sense of urgency than the first two weeks.

“We had a really great week of practice and it translated into our play on the field,” safety Tommy Hanson said. The Scouts have seemingly turned a new leaf and  have the mindset to go up and compete against some of the conference’s best in Lake Zurich and Stevenson.

The Scouts will get their chance to make a statement this Friday night as they take on the #7 ranked Lake Zurich Bears (2-1, 1-0 Conference) in Lake Zurich. The Bears will present one of the Scouts toughest matchups this season.

If they continue this upward trend, the Scouts may have a chance to upend the Bears hopes of winning conference. Make sure to make the trek west to support the Scouts!
