The last block day, the last final, the last time saying the pledge, the last chance to eat at the cafeteria, the last time ever driving to school, last gym class, last time being seniors in the upper commons, last time walking into the school as a student, last time parking in senior as a student, last actual day of school.

These are the concrete “lasts” we have coming up. As we are near the end of our last school year at LFHS, it’s going to be easy to fall into the senioritis mindset and do many things without care or thought. We all have such big things ahead of us that it’s easy to not be mindful of what happens the rest of the time we have here. It’s also easy to forget how much we will be leaving on May 31 when we walk out of the doors for the last time.

For a lot people, high school was not the best years of their lives and they are ready to leave. I get that, and understand their perspective. However, this has been our home away from home for 7 hours a day, 5 days a week for the past four years. May 30 and 31 are also probably going to be the last time you talk to that nice guy you sit next to in English that you never see outside of school, or will be the last time you joke around with your favorite teacher in class. It’s probably the last time you’re going to talk to that funny girl in your Psych class. It’s going to be the last time you’re in your favorite class laughing with your friends avoiding work.

We have all shared fun, annoying, sad, stupid, surprising, and happy memories here. So, for this next month, instead of blowing everything off, take a few moments to appreciate some of the “lasts” we are having at LFHS. We should cherish these final moments as LFHS students because as slow as today’s school day may feel, it all goes by quickly.  Before we know it we are going to be off to college or studying for college finals and we will be missing our time at the high school.
