Girls water polo suffers tough loss at Mundelein

Girls+water+polo+suffers+tough+loss+at+Mundelein

MUNDELEIN, Ill.–Girls water polo was on the road again last night, this time against the Mundelein Mustangs who hosted the Lake Forest Scouts for a highly anticipated conference matchup. The girls just came off of a tragic defeat to Stevenston on Tuesday night and head coach Anna Colletti was not going to let her girls stay down in the dumps. Practice on Wednesday was was one of their most intense of the year.

The first half of the game was very intense, as both teams were playing their hearts out. Goalie Amalia Liguori-Coneff once again shocked the crowd with her second half court shot of the season. Sophomore Catherine Terkildsen had some kind words for her opponent and teammates, “Mundelein knows how to push us to rise up to a challenge and we definitely rose to the occasion tonight.” Mundelein started to pull away in the second half with their aggressive style of play after beating Lake Forest by a much larger margin the week before in a tournament. As the game wore on, this game was starting to strike some fear into the Mustangs. Only up by two at halftime was not the position that Mundelein wanted to be in, and they decided to kick it into overdrive.

The final score of the game was 13 to 4 in favor or Mundelein. Senior Amalia Liguori-Coneff is still very hopeful for her team. “Even though we lost we still played really well and set up a good defense. Our team has really been coming together and working as a team and it’s really cool to see that happen.” Next Tuesday the girls host Libertyville at East Campus in another conference game. Jv will play at 5:00 and varsity at 6:00, make sure to be there to support the girls.
