On Tuesday, the Scouts upset the Libertyville Wildcats–the 8th-ranked team in the state–by a score of 7-6.
In the bottom of the second, sophomore 2B Owen Koehnemann delivered one of the biggest moments for the Scouts, causing the momentum to shift in their favor.
With the score 1-1, Koehnemann stepped up to the box against Brady Buenik, a University of Tennessee commit, and outlasted an 11-pitch at bat before ripping a bases–clearing triple, driving in three runs, and riling up the Scouts offense. His play made the score 5-1 before the top of the third.
Senior Captain LHP Callum Morrison earned the win after a strong six innings on the mound. Morrison allowed just three hits and five runs, only three of which were earned. Morrison struck out eight hitters and only walked four.
“Obviously, a huge win for the team, and it really got our momentum going for the last week of conference. No one was really nervous before the game because we knew the work we had put in, and everyone was more excited to play,” Morrison said.
Sophomore outfielder Henry Burke scored off of Koehnemann’s single to center field, which extended the Scouts’ lead to 6-1 in the bottom of the fourth.
Senior CF Luke Pasquesi scored in the bottom of the fifth off of senior LF Charlie Quick’s RBI single: making the score 7-1 which proved to be important.
While the Wildcats scored two runs in the top of the 6th, Pasquesi came in at the top of the 7th with one out and eventually earned the save, and closed out the game with the tying run on third base. With the game concluding, history was made for the Scouts.
Scout Nation played a big part in the win, and they are encouraged to show up as the Scouts compete for the Conference Championship against Mundelein at their home field on Tuesday.
“Due to the win, we have an opportunity next week to do something we haven’t done in the 21st century– winning conference–so everyone is gunning for Mundelein,” Morrison said.
