With the conclusion of winter break behind us and finals approaching—leaves one thing to look forward to: the excitement of the Winter Formal is underway.
This year’s Winter Formal is one to be thrilled about, as a way to celebrate the closing of the first semester and new beginnings in the New Year. It serves as a reward to students after hard work and dedication through finals’ week, and follows a four-day-long weekend.
The weekend consists of a Pep Assembly taking place in the Competition Gym on the Friday prior to the event— on January 23rd. The dance is to take place at the high school at 7pm on Saturday, January 24th.

The Pep Assembly consists of games and activities for students and staff, and performances from winter sports teams. The assembly is projected to be more extravagant than the Homecoming Pep Rally that took place in September this past year.
“The theme this year is neon; same as last year,” said junior Audrey Adamo. “We are adding new details, and students will see a surprise when they enter the gym that ties into the theme.”
The assembly has been planned by both the junior and senior class student council—who are making a strong effort to make it different and more engaging than the annual pep rally, taking place during Homecoming week each year.
“We want to highlight the people that don’t typically get recognized in the fall pep rally, like the winter sports teams,” said Adamo. “We will have captain’s games, big group activities, and volunteer games—similar to prior years, but we are currently working on adding new games that everyone will enjoy.”
This year’s Winter Formal theme is a unique take on a classic winter activity: Après Ski. The display shows a snowy landscape representing a winter resort.
“We really liked the tradition of continuing the winter pep rally tradition that we began last year,” said Student Body philanthropy leader, Carm Ventura. “We are hoping to top it this year, giving the student body a Winter Formal experience they’ll never forget.”
The Winter Showcase takes place all week long, during lunches, and highlights winter sports, clubs that may not be present at the pep assembly.
This year’s Winter Formal week requires volunteers and student involvement to bring more spirit to a special time of the year.
