While students appreciate the many refreshments The Grind holds, the true appreciation goes to the ones who supply the refreshments.

The Grind serves a specialized, cafe-style menu with various fruits, bagels, donuts, and many different drinks. Every day, Maria Cardosa serves a variety of lattes, chai teas, and hot chocolates while serving stylish looks with her colorful eye makeup. It’s no secret the students go to grind for delicious treats, but also for the embracing and welcoming staff.

“My favorite part about working at the Grind is spending time with you guys (the students)” Cardoso says.

Every time students go to the grind, they’re met by a sweet, smiling employee, whether it be Maria Cardosa, Norma Soto, or Anabel Morales.

“They always make your day better,” senior Jacque Wilson says.

Cardoso has worked at LFHS for 16 years. Many are unaware of the operations that go on behind the scenes for the Grind to provide food for students each day. Cardoso’s day starts at 6 a.m. when she gets the Grind ready and organized for the upcoming day.

Don’t forget about the friendly lady behind the cash register! Mrs. Anabel Morales has been working at LFHS for a total of 4 years, and hopefully for many more!

“I took a break in between years, but all together it has been four years,” Morales said.

Some students may have noticed the seasonal decorations around the Grind. The Grind is often decorated for Halloween, Thanksgiving, the Winter season, Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, and more! With a festive atmosphere, the Grind is a popular stop for many students each day. Your baristas encourage you to join in!

“Anyone’s welcome to come and help decorate!” Cardoso and Morales say.

In addition, numerous Scouts have noticed the music playlist that’s always on repeat. Many students love and appreciate the upbeat pop music that fills the room.

“I would play any Michael Jackson song,” Morales says.

While Morales is rocking with the old pop, Cardoso definitely likes to stay in with the trends.

“If I had to pick a song, it would be the song from Stranger Things, Running Up That Hill,” Cardoso said.

Often busier than the school cafeteria, the Grind is visited by hundreds of students. A popular staple of the school, LFHS would not be the same without it. Not only is it loved by many students because of the tasty treats, but also the upbeat atmosphere and friendly baristas.
