What to do on a spring break staycation

We are entering a time when all anyone can discuss is where they are going for spring break. Although it can be a time of excitement for many, it is also a time of jealousy and boredom for others.

Spring break should be a time for relaxation and excitement no matter where you are. Elevate your staycation plans and limit the FOMO of looking at the endless vacation photos on social media.

Although it is relatively close, not many people have heard about Starved Rock State Park located in central Illinois. It is the perfect place for a family day hike or to just check out the town.

Starved Rock was voted the number one Attraction in the state of Illinois with 13 miles of trails and year-round fishing in the Illinois River. The park is open from seven to sunset every day and is a great place to visit in the spring.

Restaurants

Living in the North Shore area, it is easy to forget about the great food options Chicago has to offer. Taking the train down with family or friends can be a simple way to elevate a boring day. Some of our favorites include; Bar Siena, Girl and The Goat, Tanta, and Le Colonial. Making a quick trip downtown is an easy way to spice up your day.

Chicago Cubs Home Opener

With the baseball season starting, the Chicago Cubs home opener is a must see if you are home for spring break. The game is on March 30th at 1:20 pm against the Milwaukee Brewers. Attending this game is a great way to spend your afternoon, and afterwards you can stay in the city for an early dinner. Take your friends and family and make sure to get a proper Chicago Style hot dog.

Botanic Gardens

Chicago weather during these seasons can be pretty off and on and because of this one of the best ways to make it feel like spring is to see the blooming flowers at the Botanic Gardens.  Walking through the gardens with flowers all around you is bound to make it feel like spring.  They host many different events throughout March. A must-see is The Orchid Show which goes from February 11th to March 26th and is from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.
