Get Ready for Prom 2023!

Coralis Colon, Staff Writer

Although Prom is still two months away, March marks the time of year when everyone begins to get ready for one of the biggest LFHS events of the year.

Prom this year – with the theme Dancing in the Moonlight – takes place on Saturday, May 6. Students will start the night off at the high school for the red carpet and later make their way down to the Hyatt Regency O’Hare Chicago.

The night kicks off at 5 p.m. when students will check in in the commons. The red carpet will go from 5:30 to 6:30. The red carpet will be similar to last year’s, but not totally the same.

This year while students are waiting for the red carpet, there will be a gold ring available for students to take pictures in front of while waiting in line. Along with these pictures, throughout the night VIP will be taking pictures on the red carpet and candid pictures throughout the night.

Last year for the red carpet, there was a live stream available. This year that will still be available, but there will also be an in-person viewing. There will be a few chairs at the front that will be up for auction, which will be used as a fundraising tool. If a family member doesn’t buy one of the chairs, then they will be able to sit on the front lawn.

Everyone will leave the high school at 6:45 and get on the buses, which will have refreshments provided. 30 short minutes later, the dancing will begin.

At 7:45, all students will be served dinner at their tables, and there will be a vegetarian option available. The dinner menu was decided by the Junior Student Council President, Vice-President, and the Prom Committee Co-Chairs when they went to a tasting.

Tables again will be groups of 10 people, and there will be a table captain. Although there’s still time to figure out your table, that’s something that you can start looking forward to now because registration for tables and tickets opens on April 3. Tickets again are each 95 dollars.

Something else to look forward to is the invitation! The junior student council will be sending out invitations to all juniors and seniors, and they should arrive in mailboxes during spring break!

The Prom Court will be announced at 8:45 after everyone is done eating. This year voting for the court will be done a little differently. It’ll be more traditional since students will be voting on paper and pencil.

After the Prom Court is announced, the floor will be open for students to be dancing for the next two hours. This year there won’t be a DJ, but the band performing is called “Final Say,” which is from a more familiar band called “Maggie Speaks.”

There will also be some late snacks available at around 9:45 pm for everyone before leaving the hotel. Buses will be departing from the Hyatt at 11:00 pm to arrive back at the high school at around 11:45.

Although Prom is during the weeks of AP Exams, it can be looked at as a nice distraction.

“The prom’s date is based on our school calendar and the event space. It’s not ideal, but there aren’t many places that will host 700+ kids,” said Junior Student Council Teacher Representative Julie Crouch.
