The Lake Scouts Men’s Swimming Team has had a storied season thus far, ultimately being 6-1 in dual meets with their lone loss to Stevenson, as well as winning the Bronco Relays Invite for the second year in a row and placing in other invites as well.

This upcoming weekend, the Scouts have their NSC Championship meet at Stevenson High School, and with about half of the team rested and peaking for this meet, the Scouts have high expectations. As well as resting, many of those peaking for this meet will also shave their hair and legs and wear speed suits and swim caps to hopefully shave a few more seconds off their times.

“We’ve been working hard all season, and making sacrifices in and out of the pool, so it will be great to start to see all of the hard work pay off and watch what we can do in the pool against our rivals this Saturday,” senior captain Harry Moore said.

The Scouts won almost all of their conference dual meets handily but ended up falling hard to 2022 state champions Stevenson High School. This, combined with some fast seed times from Lake County, the Trevian Relays, and the Evanston Invite (which was the fastest high school meet in the country that week), sets up the Scouts for an exciting finish to the season.

While the preliminary psyche sheets haven’t been released for the NSC Championship yet, the Scouts expect to have all their swimmers in a place where they can contribute and score points across all individual races and relays throughout the meet.

“We want to have all of our relays end up in a really good spot for Sectionals so we can ultimately qualify for State, so Cindy (Coach Cindy Dell) is having a lot of the guys that aren’t resting for conference throw on old speed suits, to adjust body position and to shave a little more time off of the relays to make sure our seed times are where they should be for sectionals,” junior Ben Longeway said.

The Scouts head to Stevenson High School this Saturday at 1:00 for Conference and then will host IHSA Sectionals at 1:00 at home the following week.
