A lot of seniors are feeling the pressure of college applications.

I went around and asked seniors what tips they have for other seniors to stay organized and keep from getting overwhelmed.

“Ah hell, you might not want to interview me,” one senior said. I laughed because I am thinking the same thing.

If you are anything like this and could use some advice to keep from stressing too much, then keep reading.

“Do a little bit every night so that you don’t get overwhelmed all at once,” senior Matt Durburg said.

This was a common answer among students.

Seniors thought it was important to have good organizational skills to keep from being overwhelmed with everything at the last minute.

“Plan out your deadlines on a google doc so you remember to do things like requesting transcripts two weeks in advance,” senior Fayyad Mannan said.

“Make a google document and make a table to put your deadlines, when you want your essays and supplements done. A lot of supplements are alike, so organize them, ” senior Alexa Schweitzer said.

Let’s talk about supplemental essays. Once personal statements are done, there’s a whole new wave of supplemental questions from each college.

“I try to find overlapping ideas in my supplemental essays that I can reuse,” senior Savvy Smothers said.

The seniors also thought it was really important to set goals for themselves.

“Don’t set unattainable goals. Be flexible with the time you give yourself so if you don’t get everything done, it will still be okay,” Schweitzer said.

Goals allow for students to keep themselves on a timely schedule to get things done. They also allow for students to reward themselves along the way for making progress.

“I set goals for myself every week so it keeps me on track, I plan my schedule so I have time for college applications and school work,” senior Mia DiValerio said.

Advice that most seniors can listen to from senior Eddie Furey, he said, “take a little time every night to look over stuff and prioritize your sleep by going to bed early.”
