After winning Conference and Regionals, the Varity Boy’s Golf team placed second to Barrington at Sectionals Wednesday by just four strokes. Despite losing, they still qualified as a team for the IHSA State championship tournament, which is to be hosted downstate in Bloomington at The Den at Fox Creek Golf Course.

In what head JV golf coach DelFava called a “perfect day on the course,” the team put together a great round of golf across all six high skilled Lake Forest golfers, despite facing their toughest competition yet.

Sophomore Jack Lamberti led the way for the Scouts, scoring an impressive 73, which was good for 9th place. He was closely followed by Junior Clayton Trevino, who shot a 74, good for 13th. Asa Thomas shot a 76, Spencer Collis a 78, junior Tadgh Burke a 79, and senior Jack Slaughter an 87.

“Sectionals was great. There is nothing that we will change. We have been consistent all year and that’s what got us to this point, so we will just keep doing our thing and the results with hopefully come. I am so proud of everyone that played. It makes me even more confident going into State because everyone is peaking at the right time,” Thomas said.

Thomas said he appreciates that a different player has stepped up throughout the playoffs.

“Throughout the year we have had multiple guys step up and (record) good rounds … so if we can put those pieces together and have everyone play well, I like our chances when it comes down the stretch,” Thomas said.

The team has a practice downstate Thursday, and will tee off Friday for round one of the State championship, starting off with Jack Slaughter at 8:30 a.m.
