Each week, College Corner reviews five seniors on where they have decided to attend next year, what they are most excited about, and what they love about it.

College: University of Illinois Urbana Champaign 

Major: Psychology and Pre Law 

Location: Champaign, Illinois

Mascot: Fighting Illini 

Why Illinois?

“I am very family oriented and it was close enough to home where I can visit but also far enough where I can’t go every weekend. When I went on campus, it felt like I was just where I needed to be.”

 What are you most excited about? 

“I am most excited to rush. Some of my older friends there right now absolutely love their sorority sisters and it seems like such an amazing community I would be lucky to be a part of.” 

Name: Johnny Theodore 

College: University of Virginia

Major: Architecture

Location: Charlottesville, Virginia

Mascot: Cavaliers

Why Virginia?

“When I was accepted to Virginia, I knew in the back of my head I had to go. From all the research I’d done, Virginia provides really solid options in terms of potential majors. It also is a great basketball school, which was very important in my decision. When I visited campus, it was by far the best feeling I’d had at a college, and I felt as though if I didn’t go, I was making a mistake.”

What are you most excited about? 

“I’m most excited for sporting events. Being in the student section for college games seems like a lot of fun. I’m also excited for the possibility of having more free time and getting to know new people in a new city.”

Name: Madison Miks 

College: University of Miami 

Major: Public Health

Location: Miami, Florida 

Mascot: Hurricanes

Why UMiami?

“Well, I knew I wanted to go somewhere warm for sure and when I visited, I loved the overall vibe. It’s also great for my major and it just felt right.”

What are you most excited about? 

“Honestly everything! But, if I had to pick one thing, probably sporting events. I’m also planning on trying out for the cheerleading team so I’m excited for that too.”

Name: Brody Osterlein  

College: University of Utah

Major: Business 

Location: Salt Lake City, UT

Mascot: Swoop

Why Utah? 

“Growing up I went to Utah a bunch to ski during the winters and mountain bike during the summers. Because I had been so much when I did an official tour I knew it was the right place for me. Not just the school but the state as well. With the school being at the center of the beautiful mountains and the exciting city on top of their great business program it was too many good things to say no.”

What are you most excited about?

“I am most excited to have the opportunity to go skiing, mountain biking, hiking and so much more right at my fingertips. I am also excited to watch the football team play and be a part of their notoriously loud student section.”

Name:  Lauren Atchley 

College: Ohio State University 

Major: Nursing 

Location: Columbus, Ohio

Mascot: Buckeyes

Why Ohio State? 

“Honestly, when I first thought about the idea of going to school in Ohio I was like, ‘who would ever wanna do that?’ But I visited for the first time on my way to visit another school and I completely fell in love. I visited again for a weekend a few months ago and it was such an awesome experience that the day after I got back, I committed.”

What are you most excited about? 

“I’m definitely excited to meet new people and start learning about something I’m passionate about. But, I’d definitely say I’m most excited for football games because watching college football is one of my favorite things ever.”
