Today, the Integrated Wellness class will face off in a fierce mattball match during fifth period. Both teams will be stacked with key players who are thrilled to participate.

Freshman Jack Clark sends the ball flying

“The great thing about mattball is that anyone can play, regardless of any physical limitations,” said Coach Spagnoli, mattball referee and coach.

Senior and veteran player Hannah Hinkemeyer says that Friday’s matchup will be “a lot of fun.” Hinkemeyer can usually be found near the pitcher, keeping her eye on the ball at all times. She has been known to block numerous shots.

24 players will be hitting the court, with a wide variety of skills.

“I always keep an eye on Jack Clark,” senior and player Allyson Eleveld said. “He’s really fast, and will just sneak past you if you’re not paying attention.”

Freshman and newcomer Jack Clark has proved that he can turn on the speed, quickly establishing himself as one of the most consistent players. A usual game includes at least one run from Clark.

Sam Ma makes a run for the home base

“Sam is always eager and ready to go, it will be nice to have his positive energy back,” said senior and player Sophie Lawson. “He is unafraid to take risks during the game, and, most of the time, they pay off.”

Players like Ma are thrilled to be playing.

“I’m really excited to be back,” Ma said.

Freshman Hannah Miczuga is just beginning her mattball career, but has already shown how much team spirit she has.

“Hannah always comes to class with her game face on,” said junior and player Josephine Van Esbroeck. “She’s always laughing throughout the whole game.”

Senior Jane Riley knows her way around the bases, but it’s her comments on the court that leave everyone cracking up.

“Jane’s smack talk is real! It’s so funny to listen to her,” said junior and player Mary Rylance. “But she’s also super encouraging, and I love having her as my running buddy.”

He may be new to the team, but freshman Eshan Nair has made himself known. With his powerful kick and quick feet, he rounds the bases with ease.

“Eshan is definitely our most enthusiastic player, he never seems to run out of energy.,”said senior and player Eva Sharman.

Nicolette Bevis speeds by the bases

Senior Nicolette Bevis is certainly making the best of her farewell tour, proving herself to be an extremely valuable player.

“Nicolette is so fast, she’s like a bullet,”said Lawson.

Players will be showcasing their skills in the competition gym at 12:05 p.m. during fifth period.

“Mattball gets really intense, but it’s a great way for everyone in class to have fun,” said Eleveld.
