Today at 3:30 in the cafeteria, nine senior athletes will sign with their future colleges, officially marking their commitment to continue their athletic and academic careers beyond LFHS.

Below, The Forest Scout highlights three athletes and what the future holds for them.

Senior Mikey Gray will sign with Denison University to play baseball.

For the  past year and a half, Gray has spent his time playing in tournaments, college showcases, and meeting with coaches at various Universities.

“The process was exhilarating. It was super fun, and I had a lot of crazy times,” Gray said.

During study hall, Gray often went to Slammers just to get some extra practice in. He said that he is excited to celebrate all of his hard work over the years

“It will be nice to sign in front of my family and friends,” Gray said.

Charlie Heydorn

Senior Charlie Heydorn, captain of the Varsity wrestling team, is signing with University of Ohio to continue his athletic career in the MAC Conference.

“I’m super excited about officially signing after going through a long recruiting process,” Heydorn said.

Heydorn also said that he had a lot of support from his parents and help from his brother.

After a lot of time and work, traveling to many schools, and meeting with teams and coaches, he accepted his offer at OU.

As the wrestling team moves on to their road to state, Heydorn will participate in his final matches before retiring his blue uniform and trading it in for a green one.

Senior Jackson Shoemaker will sign with College of Wooster to play soccer.

“The recruiting process was pretty relaxed with help from my parents and coaches. I got lucky to have found Wooster early on, and I knew I wanted to go right away,” Shoemaker said. “I’m happy with where I have ended up and am looking forward to starting next year.”

Shoemaker looks forward to competing with teammates next season and hopes to play outside back.
