Every week, TFS will be asking a 10/10 LFHS student 10 questions to dive into their passion. This week, we chose Heidi Richardson.

The LFHS field hockey team advanced to the state semifinals last week, and they owe much of their successes this season to their star goalie: senior Heidi Richardson.

Richardson has been a member of the varsity team since she was a freshman, and her teammates and coaches have no doubt that she is the number one goalie in the state. From crazy dives to stick saves, Richardson is hopeful to lead the team to a state title.

Varsity goalie Heidi Richardson

1. When did you become a field hockey goalie?

“I dabbled with being a field player when I was younger and hated it, so I decided to try out goalie in seventh grade.”

2. What is your go-to pregame meal?

“I like to eat a lot before the game, but not right before the game – probably a good pasta.”

3. Who is your funniest teammate?

“This is hard… I would say Lexi Berrentini. She makes me laugh even when she’s not trying to.”

4. Do you have any pre-game rituals?

“I don’t have any formal rituals, but I like to listen to music and get pumped up.”

5. What does it take to be a good goalie?

“You definitely need to be really patient, but also be able to make quick decisions so you can adjust to the different shots you get.”

6. What is your favorite memory from LFHS field hockey?

“I think going to state and just being there in that atmosphere is a really cool and special experience.”

7. What is your pump-up song?

“I’d have to say ‘Hey Baby’ by Pitbull. It’s a really good one.”

8. What is the most memorable save you have made?

“My freshman year in a GBS game, there was a breakaway, and I stepped to it, slid, and stacked. I stopped the ball and saved it.”

9. Who is your biggest hype-up teammate?

“My fellow goalie Juju Hunt always has my back and is there to pick me up and keep me going.”

10. How are you feeling about the remainder of the playoffs?

“I’m definitely nervous but super excited to see what we can do because our team has so much potential. I’m so excited.”

If you want to see Richardson in action, cheer her on today at the state semifinals at 5 p.m. at New Trier High School!
