10 Questions with Mrs. Herget

10 Questions with Mrs. Herget

Mimi Gordon, Staff Writer

From photography to painting, Mrs. Ellen Herget truly is the ultimate art guru. New to the art department this year, Mrs. Herget teaches photography and is passionate about the capability of a photograph and the stories it may tell.

Already enjoying the sense of community at LFHS, Herget seeks to enrich students’ love for photography.

Here are 10 questions The Forest Scout asked Mrs. Herget to get to know her better:

  1. When did you become interested in photography?

“I have always enjoyed photography. I took the class starting in high school, and I think it’s really neat that in photography you can tell a story with the photos.”

  1. What is your favorite hobby?

“I like to paint, actually. In the past, I’ve worked with oil and acrylic, but now I’m trying to get more into watercolor!”

  1. Is this your first time teaching? If not, where did you teach prior to LFHS?

“No, this is my 12th year teaching high school art. I taught eight years in Central Illinois East Peoria, and three years in Michigan, and now I’m here!”

  1. What is your go-to school lunch?

“It’s usually either a salad-kit or just a sandwich that I make from home, not very exciting.”

  1. What is your favorite thing about LFHS so far?

“I think the students and staff are wonderful. Everybody is so nice and so helpful, and there is such a sense of community, which is really great.”

  1. If you could time travel, what year would you visit?

“Okay, I want to go to the future… can I do that? I just think seeing the future would be so cool. I’ve always loved watching the Star Trek shows and everything, and I think that would be so neat to see what the future will be like. I want to see what humans do in outer space!”

  1. What photo have you taken that you are the most proud of?

“I really like this particular photo of my nephew when he was a little kid at this parade. I think it really just captures who he is.”

  1. What is your dream vacation destination?

“I love anywhere that has a beach. I’ve been to New Zealand and I would say it’s pretty awesome, so I would like to go back!”

  1. If you were an animal, what would you be?

“I would be a frog. I feel like I could, you know, go up onto any wall and observe everything. I really like observing and taking everything in, and I feel like frogs don’t necessarily stand out, but they’re all around and can travel and stuff. That’s so random, but I really like frogs so maybe that’s why!”

  1. What are you most excited about for this school year?

“I’m very excited to work with the other teachers. All of the other art teachers just have such great curriculums and classes. Working with them, I think I will gain so much knowledge.”
