Preparations for tomorrow night’s streaming of the 2021 Talent Show are almost completely wrapped. Now more than ever, the acts, committee, supervisors operating the show are working to maintain it’s naturally active and energetic essence.

And of course, what is a Talent Show without its MCs? This year’s hosts, seniors Cole Joseph and Pierce Docherty, are working hard to set the bar as high as possible.

The best part about being a Talent Show MC is you get to be MC of the Talent Show.

The MCs have adjusted to the pandemic restrictions on the show by pre-filming most of the skits that would normally be performed live between acts.

Docherty regards their preparation as unconventional, but feels comfortable given his and Joseph’s past experience with utilizing video skits for Talent Show.

“The hardest thing has just been planning to film everything,” said Docherty. “I think we’ve been very well adapted and Cole and I have been used to being in these Talent Show films. We’ve been in the films for the last three years, so this is nothing new for us, it’s now just the whole bit.”

Docherty and Joseph are no amateurs to the art of comedy, as they have appeared in multiple side-splittingly hilarious skits from Talent Show, as well as written and performed a recurring comedic act over the past two years depicting the plot of Oscar-nominated movies within a five minute window.

According to Joseph, he and Docherty are deviating from their roots of movie-based comedy in favor of a larger array of comedic styles.

“This year, there’s a lot more variety in our skits, unlike the last two years when we’ve solely done movie parodies,” said Joseph. “Of course those are still a big part of what we’re doing, we’re both avid movie fans, but we also get to expand our comedic horizons.”

When asked to describe the atmosphere he and Joseph create as MCs in three words, Docherty quickly responded without missing a beat: “Corey [Holmer], I’m sorry.”

It should be noted that at the time of the interview, Docherty had just previously chugged an entire container of Non-Dairy Chocolate Muscle Milk in one go and was going through “the seven stages of indigestion hell” throughout the conversation.

But, as Docherty aptly puts it, “The best part about being a Talent Show MC is you get to be MC of the Talent Show.”

Talent Show is Saturday, February 27th at 7:00 p.m.! Tickets can be purchased here!
