VERNON HILLS, IL. – In what marked the second game for the Scouts (2-0) in the Cougar Classic Tournament held at Vernon Hills High School, Wilhelm’s unit barely etched out a 41-40 victory against the Caxys of Lake Forest Academy.

Throughout the game, the Scouts struggled to find any sort of rhythm, shooting just 15-52 (29%) from the field and a mere 3-20 from 3-point land. Yet their struggles did not end there, as the team found difficulty in taking advantage of their trips to the charity stripe. As a team, the Scouts went 8-25 (32%) from the free-throw line, undoubtedly making the game closer than it had to be with each missed foul shot.

However, largely in part to the play of both senior Grace Tirzmalis and junior Halle Douglass, the Scouts were able to add their second consecutive tally to the win column. The duo finished the night with 14 points apiece, while sophomore Finola Summerville pulled in 9 total rebounds. To go along with their double-digit scoring on the offensive end, Douglass contributed 7 steals, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists, while Tirzmalis collected 5 rebounds herself.

When it was all said and done, the Scouts pulled away with the W, defeating the Caxys with a final score of 41-40.

The Lady Scouts return to Vernon Hills for their third game of the tournament this Saturday, November 17 at 2:30 p.m. against Elk Grove. With two days in between Saturday’s match-up, Wilhelm’s bunch looks to improve on its shooting and find its touch once again.
