Q&A with Talent Show Emcees Clare Kaiser and Nico Caputo

Juniors Clare Kaiser and Nico Caputo will be the emcees at this year’s 70s theme talent show from February 26-28th. While both have been in many past theater productions, emceeing is relatively new for both of them. Now, without further ado, while we wait to actually see them under the stage lights, let’s dive into the interview with this dynamic duo.

What made you want to audition for this role?

Clare: “Two of both me and Nico’s really good friends last year auditioned to be an MC and their friendship dynamic made it really funny and we wanted to carry on their legacy.”

Who asked who to be their emcee partner and why?

Clare: “I think I asked Nico. We work well together because we just both have really similar humor. We will just laugh at everything, and we can agree on a lot.”

What was it like when you found out you would be the emcees for this year’s talent show?

Nico: “I was so excited when I found out. I was in the middle of my bio class and I gasped.”

What are you most excited about?

Clare: “I’m really excited about the theme because I feel like there is so much to do with the 70s. I love the fun colors of the decade, the bands, and the pop culture that was really big at the time.”

What do you think makes a good emcee, and how do you plan to follow through with that?

Nico: “A good MC is someone who will facilitate a show in a funny, humorous, and entertaining way. They won’t steal the show, but still keep it going.”

How much of your role is scripted vs improvised?

Nico: “There are skits that are more planned out and have actors, people who just want to have fun, play a part. But our main goal is to just have fun, and for skits that involve volunteers we’re definitely going to do more improv.”

Is there anything that you are nervous about?

Clare: “What I am most nervous about is that the audience won’t understand our jokes or find them funny. Nico and I both have a very unique sense of humor and I am scared it will be hard to pick up on.”

How do you hope to make this year’s emceeing stand out?

Nico: “We know we’re going to stand out because we have been really close friends for a while now, and our personalities are almost identical so they’ll absolutely build upon each other.”
