The Scouts Varsity Men’s Basketball Team (20-9, 10-4) finished their conference season on the road against the Lake Zurich Bears (13-17, 5-9) on Wednesday night. The Scouts topped the Bears with a final score of 39-33. Senior Hudson Scroggins led the squad with 15 points, and junior Dominic Mordini added 12. At the beginning of the game, senior point guard Charlie Markee was awarded with the NSC Sportsmanship Award, a recognition for the player who treats his own and other teams’ players at the highest level.
The Scouts and Lake Zurich play a very similar brand of basketball, slow offense coupled with tough defense. This led to a very slow paced game that was always within two scores. The Scouts started two guys last night who do not typically start. Senior Kaden Whiteside and senior AJ Adekechuwu were both in the starting five. Udechukwu blocked a three point attempt at the end of the game to seal the deal for the Scouts. It’s always a good sign when guys step up on both sides of the ball. With a nice win over the Bears to end the regular season, the Scouts are rolling as they enter the playoffs.
The Scouts return to action for their first playoff game next Wednesday at 6 PM at Vernon Hills against the winner of the Chicago (Amundsen) and Chicago (Northside).
