At Lake Forest High School there are so many competitive teams so we wanted to check out of the top six sports. To start off we will be looking at which programs have shown the most success in the last four years. We also explored the records and trends and have seen what teams bring in the most consistent seasons.
1. Boys Varsity Lacrosse
Boys Varsity Lacrosse comes in at number one with an 84.5% win rate throughout the last four seasons. With this win rate I think it is easy to say that the lacrosse team has been consistently very dominant.
Looking back at the 20-21 and 20-22 seasons I believe that this team started its uprising trend for the program through good leadership and outstanding seniors. They had a very successful season finishing runners up in the state championship and the program has only improved from there. After coming so close to winning the state championship two years in a row a new head coach by the name of David Hone continued the positive trend and took over where they left off.
Coach Hone’s first season didn’t pan out how the team hoped, but was still successful; they placed 3rd in the state and had some thrilling wins in the regular season.
Following that season, the Scouts came out with vengeance and it showed. They dominated in the regular season and their playoff schedule really tested their legitimacy. The firepower from the Scouts was just too strong and it seemed no one could stop them. This resulted in a win at the 23-24 state championship game with a final score of 4-1 over Glenbard West High School.
I think it’s a no-brainer that the Boys Lacrosse Team ranks number one as they have finished at least top three in the state every year for the past four years and brought home one state championship and is looking to win one more with this upcoming season.
2. Girls Varsity Field Hockey
The Girls Field Hockey Team comes in second with a win rate of 76.1% over their past four years.
In their 24-25 season they fell short in the state championship after losing a heartbreaker to New Trier, 3-1.
They have also had many successful seasons consistently finishing with a winning record and a deep run in the playoffs. That’s not an easy thing to do in any sport and undoubtedly makes them one of the top programs at the school.
Looking back at all the seasons, it is clear that each season has had a very similar outcome, and you know what to expect from this team. Although they are gonna miss some key seniors next year, I believe that the future for this team will remain powerful in the upcoming years due to great leadership, talent, and dedication.
3. Girls Varsity Lacrosse
The Girls Varsity Lacrosse Team comes in at third with a notable 74% win rate.
The girls lacrosse team recently has made many impressive runs in the playoffs. With the last three years they have come so close to winning a state championship placing third, third, and fourth. This is one exciting team to watch in the spring season because of their skill and work ethic that definitely translates into their play.
Veteran coach, Cat Catanzaro, knows exactly what the team needs to do each year to win games, and they do. Catanzaro is a very respected coach by everyone and I wouldn’t be surprised if the team brings home a state championship in the future.
4. Boys Varsity Basketball
The Men’s Varsity Basketball Team comes in at fourth with a win rate at 74.3%, just barely below the girls lacrosse team.
The basketball program has had many memorable seasons throughout the past four years as they have finished each season with a positive win record and some clutch wins that everyone remembers. Head Coach Phil Lascala does a great job at running the program and he, along with the team, never disappoints the Scouts fans.
The past four years, the team has had some studs on the court. However, the program never falters. They have an unmatched ability to replace their lost star players, and to fill the roles that are needed.
This team doesn’t only dominate in their regular season, but the team does very well in winning the close matchups, especially against our rivals, and conference games. The whole team is very passionate about winning and are already setting high expectations for this 24-25 season as they currently have a record of 5-2.
5. Varsity Football
Lake forest Varsity Football ranks fifth with a win percentage 63.3% in their four most recent seasons.
Coming off a strong 9-3 season, it is not a shock that this team made it on the list. The football program is always a strong competitor and plays in the playoffs almost every year.
However, the 22-23 season seemed to be a fluke and was something very uncommon for the program, as they fell short in the regular season.
The 21-22 season was one of the best that we’ve seen. The Scouts lost in the semi finals to the 21-22 state champs, Cary Grove. This was still considered a huge success considering that LFHS plays in a very tough conference, and has a very challenging playoff path almost every year.
The 21-22 team set a great example for the team this season as they had very similar dynamics; a large senior class with some skilled underclassmen. This led to another impactful season for the program with some crazy upsets and another great playoff run.
Head Coach Chuck Spagnoli and the seniors always do a great job of protecting the football team’s legacy in order to continue chasing seasons like these.
6. Boys Varsity Hockey
The Varsity Hockey Team comes in at sixth with an overall win rate at 53.2%.
This program has seen some tougher records; however, they are playing in the best league in the state, TheScholastic Hockey League(SHL), where they have to play against some of the most skilled teams in Illinois. Although their win percentage may not be too appealing they are on the right track to say the least.
The Scouts made the transition to the SHL in the 22-23 season and had an underwhelming to say the least as they finished with a league record of 7-18-2, and missed the playoffs. Despite struggling in their new league, the Scouts were successful in their out of conference games which proved that they were still a great team. They simply struggled against the top competition.
Following that season the Scouts took a huge jump. They showed lots of improvement as they finished 15-14-1 in the SHL and made it into the playoffs for the first time. So the Scouts finally got to prove that they belong in the SHL.

Wow, what great teams! However, correct me if I’m wrong, but the LFHS dance team has won state TWICE and are back-to-back champions. Just wondering-does the boys hockey team, with their 54% win rate, rank higher than a state champion and nationally ranked dance team? Genuinely curious!
Ohhh, I see what’s going on here! The authors are ranking the teams they’re on! Love the confidence, boys! Keep hyping yourselves up!
