1. Men’s Lacrosse State Championship Victory
On a cold and rainy Saturday afternoon, Men’s Varsity Lacrosse took a bus to Hinsdale Central High School to compete against highly regarded Glenbard West. The teams had previously met twice, each claiming a victory by a single goal. Lucas Kroner, Graham Garrigan, Brayden Thiergart, and Emmet Lee each netted one for the Scouts, leading them to a State Championship. Goalie Augie Silver was all in, saving 13 shots. His efforts ended up being a significant factor in the game’s outcome. This victory marked the end of the Scouts’ 27-year championship drought.
2. Rivalry Revenge Against Libertyville
The Scouts of the Varsity Football Team set out to Libertyville High School on a brisk Thursday evening to face their biggest rival. The Cats beat the Scouts the previous year during LFHS’ Homecoming game, fueling the Scouts for revenge. As the game went into overtime tied at 21, the Scouts faced a challenging situation. Down by seven in the first overtime, Graham Garrigan dodged tackles for a 10-yard touchdown, forcing a second overtime. In the second overtime, the Scouts went for it on 4th down but were stopped on the goal line, resulting in a turnover. Libertyville had an opportunity to win with a field goal, but senior linebacker Tommie Aberle jumped through the gap in the Cats’ offensive to block the game winner, forcing a third overtime. Libertyville started with the ball but missed a field goal wide left on 4th down. While the Scouts struggled to find the end zone, junior and Linebacker Tim Dan sealed the win with a chip-shot field goal.
3. Lake Forest Dance Team Brings Home State Championship… Again
On January 26, the Varsity Dance Team went down to Bloomington to compete in the preliminary route of the state championship. Going into day one, the Scouts competed against 30 other high school teams across Illinois. After the first day, they were in first place with Geneva High School following close behind by 1.1 points. On the second day, finals day, the team took first place overall in the 2A division in the IHSA State Championship, claiming their back-to back State Championship title. The team secured their victory with a score of 98.02- the highest point total in 2A history.
4. Basketball Overtime Against Lake Zurich
On a Friday night in February, Lake Zurich came to LFHS looking to sweep Men’s Varsity Basketball for the season. The stakes were high, as a win would crown the Scouts Co-Champions of the NSC Conference. Both teams exchanged leads throughout the game, ultimately leading to overtime tied at 44. Head Coach Phil La Scala called a timeout, drawing up a play for a lob pass to senior captain Tommie Aberle for a layup. The play worked perfectly as Aberle caught the ball on the block and sank the game-winner. ScoutNation piled onto the floor to celebrate the buzzer beater.
5. Girls’ Soccer Regional Championship
Competing in the Regional Final, Girls Varsity Soccer were the underdogs coming into the game against Lakes. The game was tight throughout the match, but the Scouts managed to equalize in the second half, leading to a tie. Unable to determine a winner in regular time, the Scouts and Eagles were set to overtime. After both halves of overtime, the game was still tied 1-1, forcing penalty kicks. Hannah Sands sank the game winning penalty kick when it mattered, bringing home the Regional plaque for the Scouts.
6. Men’s Lacrosse Super Sectional Win
Scouts Men’s Varsity Lacrosse faced off against Loyola Academy in the Super Sectional game after defeating St. Viator in the Sectional Championship. Tensions were high, as the Scouts hadn’t beaten the Ramblers since the 2008-2009 season. Scouts junior Lucas Kroner scored within the first five minutes of the game, handing the Scouts the momentum. The team managed to hold the Ramblers scoreless the first three quarters due to senior goalie Augie Silver’s excellent performance. The Scouts ended up dominating, winning by a score of 7-1. The win advanced the Scouts to the State Semifinals, where they played St. Ignatius College Prep.
7. Girls’ Lacrosse Super Sectional Victory
The Girls’ Varsity Lacrosse Team faced off against Crystal Lake Central High School in the Super-Sectional Championship. The Scouts battled against the Tigers, ending the first quarter tied 2-2. After delays due to thunderstorms, the team was able to pick up where they left off and took control of the game. The Scouts ended up winning 9-6 and earned themselves a spot in the Super-Sectional Championship. This win sent the Scouts to State where they played Benet Academy in the State Semifinals.
8. Upset Victory Over Warren in Basketball
In a conference game against the 13th-ranked basketball team in the state, the Scouts faced off against the Warren Blue Devils. The Scouts, an unranked team going into the game, were significant underdogs. The Blue Devils were averaging 69 points going into the game while the Scouts were putting up an average of 54 points per game. The Blue Devils were led by freshman Jaxson Davis, who scored 20 points. The Scouts fought back with captain Tommie Aberle and junior Hudson Scroggins. Scroggins led the team with 20 points, as Aberle tacked on 15 of his own. The Scouts squeaked out a 54-51 win on the road, heavily boosting their conference ranking. This unexpected win gave the Scouts the ability to compete for Co-Champions for the NCS conference later in the season.
9. Scouts Baseball Pull Off Dramatic Upset Against the Patriots
Varsity Baseball hosted the Stevenson Patriots in a gripping home conference matchup. The 12th-ranked Patriots faced off against the Scouts in an instant classic, with both teams showcasing their power by hitting home runs to left field. It was neck and neck throughout the whole game, with each team stepping up when the time called. In the 8th inning, the Patriots got two runs, taking a two-run lead. However, the Scouts ignited a dramatic rally in the bottom of the 8th inning, as Luca Royer, Max Helmer, and Colin Sinclair all reached base with a hit, tying the game in the bottom of the 9th. With the game on the line, Bink Hartline executed a near-perfect bunt down the 3rd baseline, allowing senior Nick Angelos to slide in headfirst at home plate, sealing a victory over the top-ranked Patriots.
10. Scouts Hockey Reach Elite 8
In the Round of 16 in the State Playoffs, Men’s Varsity Hockey defeated Evanston in a close game with a score of 2-1. Senior goalie Teddy Huddleston was a standout player, making an impressive 33 saves. The game remained scoreless after the first period, but in the second, the Scouts lit up the scoreboard from seniors Jackson Drum and Zach Shoemaker. This victory advanced the Scouts to the Elite 8, where they would play the New Trier Green team in the State Playoffs.
