Although seeing horrifying images on your TVs and phones about the war and flooding’s may make you feel out of sorts, it also may motivate you to make a change.

As these stories on the news start to intensify, it makes you feel as if you should get up and start creating a better world for yourself and those around you.

A couple ways to help out with the world and especially these issues include:

  • Volunteering- You can volunteer by going around to your local volunteer organizations, and simply volunteer for a change for the better. Volunteering helps those who are in need and does not cost money, just your time.
  • Global Volunteers– Global Volunteers allows you to volunteer globally which consists of helping with healthcare, children, building and repairing, and refugee assistance and much more.
  •  International Volunteer HQ– International Volunteer HQ brings more than 96 nationalities together to make a positive change around the world. International Volunteer has been named the Top Abroad Provider by Go Overseas. One thing that they have done was renovate over 25 classrooms to make primary schools safer.
  • Interact Club- One easy and accessible way to help is simply by joining Interact club. Interact club takes place every other Monday and meets in room 353. Interact club is solely based on volunteer work and reaching out to those in need locally and globally.

  • You can possibly host a family who are in need of help until they get back on their feet. By hosting a family you would gain a new perspective on life and what people are going through. You would also be able to learn about their experiences and grief that they have had to deal with.
  • International Rescue Committee– The International Rescue Committee helps those who are affected by humanitarian crises to help them build a new life. The IRC helps with over 50 affected countries. The IRC helps in many ways, whether it is hosting a family, supporting the need for education, or providing health benefits.

Donating to charities- Donating helps many of those who are in need, especially financially. If you are seeking to financially support those who are affected by the issues in our world, here are a few of the most reliable ones:

  • International Committee of the Red Cross. ICRC is a humanitarian organization that supports those who are affected by conflict, more specifically, those who have suffered due to war.

      • UNICEF. UNICEF works to save the lives of children by protecting them from their surrounding fears. This organization allows these children to reach their full potential. UNICEF works to improve the lives of children in more than 190 countries to make sure that they are getting the support they deserve.

    • Direct Relief. Direct Relief’s slogan is, “Healthy People. Better World.” Direct Relief works internationally as well as in the US to financially help those who have been affected by natural disasters, wars, fires, etc. Direct Relief works with professional healthcare to support anyone in need in regards to their health needs.

These are all potential ways that the Lake Forest community can help with these crises. These small yet impactful tasks would make an immense difference in the lives of others and communities around the world. Taking the time to help out those who are suffering, will make a huge impact on those around you.
