Fostering School Spirit: This Year’s Pep Rally Brings School Together

The Homecoming Pep Rally provides the opportunity for the entire school to come together in anticipation of the Homecoming dance.  Whether students are new to the festivities or experiencing these traditions one last time, everyone enjoys them all the same.

Many shop endlessly to find the perfect look, making sure every accessory matches. One would think that the most exciting event of Homecoming would be the dance itself, but instead, it’s the Pep Rally.

Whether you’re on a sports team, a part of New Media, a member of the band, or a student watching from the bleachers, Pep Rally has a role for everyone.

This year, Student Council wanted to take a new approach to the event.

“One of our goals was to reimagine our introduction video. We wanted to change it from last year while still incorporating previous years’ ideas. New Media played such an important role in getting this done and it ended up looking great,” said Student Body advisor Mrs. Carolyn Konz.

The Student Council made a point to make this Pep Rally more “peppy” than the past years.

Junior Kat Yakes was one of the main planners for the event.

“Being a part of the Pep Rally committee, a main focus we had was to make sure that it was a memorable event for everyone. We felt like every year it seemed to be the same games and events, so this year we wanted it to stand out more,” said Yakes.

The Pep Rally seemed to be a huge success judging from the looks on the student’s faces. Every row of the bleachers was filled with cheering students and staff.

This year especially, the Student Body has felt more connected during the assembly. While continuing the tradition of Captain’s Games, Spirit Week’s Best Dressed, and Senior Football/Cheer/Pom dance routine, many new traditions were created.

Varsity Dance Team Captain Rachel Silvers says the Pep Rally is “exhilarating” and that she loves to dance in front of the school.

“The Dance Team performing gives us so much adrenaline. Seeing everyone cheer for our dance gives us a boost of confidence. We get to showcase what we’ve been working on for the past few weeks,” said Silvers.

Along with getting the sports team involved, Pep Rally highlights the work of the other aspects of the school, especially the Music department.

“I love being in the band during Pep Rallies because the band provides a lot of school spirit and energy with music to make the event more fun as a whole,” said junior Jonathan Hough.

Especially during the earlier weeks of the school year when everyone is still getting used to their schedules, Pep Rally allows for a fun break from the first few weeks of classes.

While Pep Rally is a fun event, it can be quite stressful for those involved in planning it. Although it ultimately turns out fun for everyone.

Student Body Vice President Mahi Bhalla, and one of the Emcees, had a prominent role in this year’s pep rally.

“It was so fun to see how engaged the school was. I think it’s such a great representation of the spirit at LFHS and the community,” said Bhalla.

The Pep Rally is not only loved by many upperclassmen and teachers but underclassmen as well.

For the younger students, being in a room with the entire student body can be nerve-wracking.

However, this year’s freshman class definitely brought the energy.

“The Pep Rally was such a great experience and a great way to start my high school career. It made me so excited for Homecoming and to see what other exciting events there will be for my next four years at LFHS,” said freshman Morgan Newman.
