The Varsity Boys Basketball team defeated Carmel Catholic 40-28 to win the Class 3A Grayslake Central sectional semifinals Tuesday. On Friday, they will play the winner of tonight’s game between St. Viator and Grayslake Central.

It was a slow start as both offenses struggled.  Juniors Efe Yardmici and Bolurin Taiwo stepped up and made a pair of threes each before half. Heading into the second half with a two point lead, the offense improved after Yardmici completed another triple to push the Scouts lead to five. Senior Asa Thomas and Taiwo heated up, finishing with 11 and 12 points to finish off the Corsairs.

In order to play Catholic, the team had to first defeat Notre Dame at home on Feb. 24.

Lake Forest held Notre Dame to just 28 points through regulation while Thomas and junior Tommie Aberle struggled to attack the paint early on in the game. The Scouts offense picked up in the middle of the fourth quarter when Thomas hit a triple from well behind the arc that helped to protect the Scouts’ lead.

Thomas, Aberle, and senior Anthony Mordini all finished with nine points in contribution to the victory.
