The Girls Varisty Basketball team was confident and ready going in to play rival LFA Wednesday night.

“We put the work in, we’re locked in and I believe in us,” said senior team manager Sophia Maggos.

The start of the game confirmed the faith that Maggos had in the team, with LFHS scoring 5 points in the first opening minutes of the game. By the end of the quarter, they were up 14-1.

As the game went on, the team stayed focused, led by senior captain Rachel Kaus, who is signed to play basketball at Cornell University. Kaus scored a total of 20 points for her team, also completing 17 rebounds and 5 assists.

“I’m proud of our success,” Kaus said. “We have a lot of potential for this season, and I’m excited to see where we go.”

Senior Bella Ranallo, who scored 18, was excited to match up against LFA.

“We beat them last year by a lot,” Ranallo said. “They lost a few very strong players, but we’ve had a lot of the same girls on the team for a while. We’ve really bonded and we’ve become very strong.”

Girl’s basketball anticipates another strong win against Elk Grove on Saturday.
