5. Hopeless - This book starts slowly, but it is 100% worth the read. Like many of Hoovers’ novels, Hopeless is a story that explores the uncovering of buried trauma and the start of new beginnings. The central character, Sky, who was adopted at a young age, has been homeschooled her whole life. In her senior year of high school, she attends public school for the first time, where she meets a troubled boy named Dean. The two slowly form a passionate relationship, but Sky can tell Dean is keeping things from her. The closer they get, Sky starts to uncover secrets from her past. Throughout the book, Sky struggles with one question: What's more important: knowing the truth that makes you feel hopeless or to keep believing the lies?
