Sports Still Being Played during the COVID-19 Outbreak

The sports world has been a quiet last few weeks. There is an absence of sports being played on TV, SportsCenter has nothing to post on Instagram and Twitter, you just simply can’t watch your favorite teams play.

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak throughout the world, sports everywhere have been put on hold. Major sports in the United States like the MLB, NBA, PGA, NHL, and our beloved March Madness have all been suspended or canceled. Internationally, major soccer leagues have been postponed.

This is not the sports world we are used to. However, very few sports have held on as they try to entertain millions of disappointed sports fans.

Soccer– Soccer is one of the world’s most popular and extensive sports has not fully given up their seasons in some parts of the world. Although the world’s largest and most popular leagues like Premier League and La Liga have been suspended indefinitely, some smaller leagues have held their ground. In Australia, games will be played without fans in attendance. In Belarus and Singapore, there are also restrictions on fan attendance. These leagues are doing the best they can to try and provide matches for the players and fans. With the extensive and international sport of soccer, comes lots of traveling and gatherings. It’s best for the public to keep things locked down.

Horse Racing- Although to some people horse racing isn’t something you may find interesting, races are still taking place. These unattended races have been taking place in France, New York, Florida, and California. Races are being funded by bettors watching from home or other remote locations. Even though restaurants and schools have been shut down throughout the whole country, the horses are still able to take laps. However, in Britain it’s different. Every year they hold a famous horse racing festival that takes place over four days. It took place last week, and 250,000 people were in attendance. The attendance took only a slight dip from last year. Fans in Britain don’t seem to worry about COVID-19 while at the track.

Darts- Yes, Premier League Darts are still taking place through this pandemic. Last week this darts week took place in Liverpool, England. Where the usual rowdy bar crowds packed in to watch. Once again, the English people have enjoyed their sports. The next round was supposed to take place this week in the Netherlands, however, with their crowd gathering rules, it has been postponed until the fall. All darts events in England are still scheduled to take place with a crowd limit of 100 people.
