In Your Opinion: Voting in the 2020 Illinois Primaries

Due to the fact that Illinois had their primary in March, I thought I would simply survey some LFHS students who are now able to vote on who they were voting for (no matter the party they identify with), and ask them why they were voting for that person. These were the responses I received:

Who did you vote for in the 2020 primaries?
“I voted for Joe Biden”
Why did you vote for him?
“I’m voting for him because I think he has the best shot at beating Donald Trump. He believes in raising the minimum wage to 15 dollars an hour, he supports background checks. I love that he has good humility for other people and is a good person at heart.”

Who did you vote for in the 2020 primaries?
“I voted for Trump.”
Why did you vote for Trump?
“I didn’t really like Biden as a candidate and don’t trust him to lead our country. I don’t agree with everything Trump says but I trust him more than Biden.”

Who did you vote for in the 2020 primaries?
“I decided not to vote.”
Why are you not voting?
“If I had to vote I would have probably voted for Trump, but I feel like both parties are becoming more extreme and I haven’t found a candidate that I really associate with. I agree with opinions from different sides and feel that I am kinda more moderate.”

Why did you vote for him?
“I am voting for him because he has fought for me before I was born. He fights and advocates for people of all races, religions and genders. I am also voting for him in respect to the climate crisis because it truly is a crisis. He has a great plan for our planet that is in serious danger and in need of great help. ”

“I voted for Bernie Sanders.”
Why did you vote for Bernie Sanders?
“A candidate to me is all about policy. If they have policies that I agree with then I will vote for them. His policies are necessary things that we need in America today. He is the only candidate offering fundamental change to a broken system that is so sick it elected Trump into the White House.”

“I voted for Joe Biden.”
Why did you vote for Joe Biden?
“I am voting for Joe Biden because I believe in his commitment to fighting for everyone in this country regardless of any differences, political or otherwise. I also think that he is the best suited to beat Donald Trump. I am constantly looking forward to the day when I can look to the White House and see someone that I am proud to say is the President Of The United States. I think Joe Biden will fulfill that dream.”

The only reason he had to retreat was because the election was rigged! Us Bernie voters were victims of voter suppresision while Biden voters weren’t! I mean, sure, Bernie performed best at caucuses which suppress voters by their nature and Biden performed better with African-Americans who historically have been the primary targets of voter suppression, but.. THE ESTABLISHMENT!!!

@Owner of Libs: *people, as in We the People. While I respect your opinion and in no way here to belittle you, that is not how things work. Some people just do not have the means to pay for college themselves. With the right motivation and stats, they can earn their money—it is not simply given to them. So like, chill maybe. Peace (on Earth).

in response to the comment above….. uh you realize not everybody can pay for college right? and places like lake forest are rich and white which makes it easier for people here to go to college. check your privilege.

Classic Bernie supporter, always asking for other people to cater to their needs! Thats what you get for falling into his socialist utopia where nobody has to work and everyone just lives off of other people’s money. Why pay for college when u can just demand that the suits in DC make it free because peple can’t take responsibility for a contract that they signed! This is America! A land of freedom, honor, integrity, grit, greatness, and we need to keep it that way! Now poor Bernie is going to have to retreat to his mere three properties…
