Injuries have hurt the Scouts over the past couple of weeks

AJ Shaw, Sports Editor

Over the past couple of weeks, the Lake Forest Scouts girl’s basketball team has hit a slide due to multiple injuries to many star players. Players like Halle Douglass, Molly Fisher, Finola Summerville, and Olivia Witte have missed multiple games due to injuries and that has forced the Scouts to put many young players in the lineup like Bella Ranallo, Rachel Kaus, Tricia Gray, and recent call-up from JV, Catherine Peterson-Ross. Let’s see how the Scouts have done over the past couple of weeks.

1/18 at Hersey: L 36-51

LF Leading Scorer: Bella Ranallo, Halle Douglass (14)

LF Leading Rebounder: Mary McKendry (8)

With Finola Summerville, Olivia Witte, and Molly Fisher all out due to injuries, the Scouts were forced to start some inexperienced players against a talented Hersey team. The Scouts struggled in the first half, only scoring 14 points to the Huskies’ 34, and were just unable to overcome the deficit. The Scouts also struggled to shoot the basketball all afternoon, shooting a season-low 32% from the field. Despite the loss, Bella Ranallo shined, dropping a season-high 14 points.

1/21 vs. Glenbrook South: W 52-43

LF Leading Rebounder: Bella Ranallo (10)

Coming into the game on a two-game losing streak, junior Finola Summerville returned to the lineup after missing the previous game, dropping 18 points in the Scouts 52-43 victory over the Titans of Glenbrook South. The Scouts got help from Bella Ranallo and Rachel Kaus, as Ranallo grabbed ten boards and Kaus had a season-high 13 points and four assists in the victory on a night where star Halle Douglass struggled offensively.

1/24: at Stevenson: L 25-48

LF Leading Scorer: Halle Douglass (13)

LF Leading Rebounder: Halle Douglass (8)

With the team battling multiple injuries, the team called-up sophomore Catherine Peterson-Ross and freshman Manha Mirza from the JV roster to fill some holes left by injured players. However, the moves didn’t pay off as the Scouts hoped as Stevenson flat out dominated the Scouts going on a 30-10 run over the entirety of the second and third quarters as the Scouts were handed their biggest loss in nearly two seasons, 48-25 to the Patriots.

1/25: at New Trier: L 32-43

LF Leading Scorer: Halle Douglass (13)

LF Leading Rebounder: Bella Ranallo (5)

The Scouts struggled to shoot the basketball for the second straight game, 32% from the field, as they dropped back-to-back games for the second time in the past week. Halle Douglass led the offense with 13 points, but it wasn’t enough for the Scouts to beat the Trevians as Lake Forest dropped their fourth game in their last five.

1/28: vs. Mundelein: W 46-30

LF Leading Scorer: Finola Summerville (16)

LF Leading Rebounder: Bella Ranallo, Rachel Kaus (6)

With Halle Douglass missing the contest for the first time in god knows how long, the Scouts had a balanced offensive attack from players like Finola Summerville, Bella Ranallo, Rachel Kaus, and Tricia Gray. Summerville dropped 16 to lead all scorers, Ranallo dropped 13 points with six rebounds and the sophomore Gray had a season-high 10 points as the Scouts improved to 7-3 in the North Suburban Conference.

The Scouts got off to a bit of a slow start, but made a resilient comeback in the final moments, only to fall short in a 37-34 loss to the Ramblers. Douglass had a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds in the ballgame.
